How the job goes
The grinder chews the stump and the surface roots down below grade, usually 6 to 12 inches, and we backfill with the ground-up mulch so the spot is level, not a crater. Underground utilities get located first — that's on us to check, not you. Most stumps are a same-visit job alongside a removal; standalone grinding for an old stump is scheduled just as fast.

It comes down to the stump's diameter, how many there are, and how easily the grinder can reach them — a single accessible stump is a fast job; a row of them, or one behind a fence with no equipment access, takes longer. We price it after seeing the stump, not off a size chart over the phone.
Stump grinding or full stump removal — what's the difference?
Grinding chews the stump and surface roots down below grade and leaves the deeper roots in the ground to break down naturally — enough to sod or plant something shallow-rooted over it. Full removal pulls the whole root ball out, which disturbs more ground and costs more; most yards don't need it. We'll tell you if yours does.
