There's no honest flat rate for tree removal — here's what actually moves the price, and why an estimator has to see the tree before we can give you one.
Every homeowner asking this question wants a number, and every honest answer starts the same way: it depends. Not as a dodge — a 20-foot dead ficus in an open backyard and a 60-foot live oak leaning over a roof with one narrow gate for access are different jobs with different equipment, different crew sizes, and different risk, even though both are technically "a tree removal." A rate card that tried to cover both would be wrong for one of them every time.
What actually drives the price
- Size and species — height, trunk diameter, and canopy spread set the baseline. A queen palm and a live oak of similar height are not the same job; hardwoods take longer to cut and haul.
- Access — can equipment reach the tree, or does everything come down by rope over a fence, a pool, or a neighbor's yard? Rope-and-lower work takes longer and needs more hands.
- Condition — a healthy tree comes down on a plan. A dead, hollow, or storm-cracked one has to be treated as unpredictable, which changes the rigging and sometimes the crew size.
- What's underneath and around it — power lines, a pool cage, a septic field, or a slab close to the trunk all add time and care.
- Stump and debris — whether the stump gets ground the same visit, and how many loads of debris leave the property, both add to the job.
